This Grade 2 Listed Building conversion centered around the sensitive restoration and adaptive reuse of a commercial building in a busy town centre. This Building which had formerly served as a Local council office/Registry Office but had been vacant and deteriorating for over eight years. The goal was to preserve the historical character of the building alongside the NCC conservation officer while bringing it back to function as a residential HMO through high-quality residential building conversion methods.
The main building was carefully refurbished and converted into 12 thoughtfully designed apartments. Great care was taken to retain the architectural heritage and period features of the structure, in compliance with listed building regulations. Modern amenities were integrated in a way that respected the original design, ensuring both comfort and character for future residents.
In addition to the restoration of the main building, the development made effective use of the surrounding land. Planning approval was granted for the construction of four new-build bungalows in a Dorma style—two constructed in traditional brick and two in natural stone. These single-story homes were designed to complement the aesthetic of the refurbished building and the surrounding environment, offering high-quality, accessible housing with a focus on community integration.
This project successfully balanced heritage conservation with modern living requirements. It brought a long-neglected historic property back into productive use, providing much-needed housing, and contributed to the revitalization of the local area.
